ClayATP 500

An ATP 500 on outdoor clay in Rio de Janeiro, between Buenos Aires and Santiago. The clay is slow and high-bouncing, so a big serve gets neutralised and the returner wins ground for free. Holds run long and the breaks, when they come, are attritional, which keeps underdog prices live and pushes games totals over. The grinding baseliner with heavy topspin and legs is the type.
