ClayATP 500

An ATP 500 on outdoor clay in Barcelona, the week after Monte Carlo and before Munich and Madrid. Clay takes the pace off the ball, so points are built rather than blasted: long rallies, heavy topspin, breaks in both directions and few tiebreak shootouts. The patient baseliner who defends wide and redirects is the profile. Three clay weeks in a row make scheduling load a real factor.
