ClayMasters 1000

An ATP Masters 1000 on outdoor clay in Rome, framed by Madrid and then Geneva. The clay grips and rates 25.4 on the court pace index, among the slowest around: holds sit at 76%, aces are scarce and tiebreaks are uncommon. Favourites grind through rather than get ambushed, with three fifths of matches ending in straights. The heavy-topspin retriever with legs is the type. Djokovic has five titles here.
